How You Can Participate In The United States

Container Shipping

Our goal is to continue shipping containers full of supplies to the island of Hispaniola and to Kenya on a regular basis. In order for us to achieve this goal, we need to raise the funds for the shipment ($5,000 for Hispaniola and $12,000 for Kenya) and collect the items to be shipped (e.g. educational, medical, food, clothing and household items). We also need a team of people to load the containers, usually during a Friday evening and Saturday morning. Dates, times and locations will be posted on the FFP home page when confirmed. If you are interested in working in our "Container shipping" program, please contact ken@foundationforpeace.org

Website Updating

The Foundation for Peace website is basic in functionality. Significant enhancements are needed to better portray the needs of the people we serve, to highlight the importance of the mission efforts we are engaged in with our community partners and to improve personal participation. People who are skilled at programming, Web design, writing articles and working with photos and videos would be greatly valuable to this effort. If you are interested in participating in the "Website upgrade" program, please contact ken@foundationforpeace.org

Education Programs

We need individuals, classes and other groups to sponsor students and/or raise funds for educational programs in schools and orphanages. These programs enable non-schooled children and adults to attend school by providing tuition assistance and supplies. Donations of educational materials including backpacks, one-subject notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, maps (Spanish), and Spanish classroom books are also needed. Children in the Dominikids, Haitikids and Kenyakids elementary school program can be sponsored for just $175 per year (2011-2012 school year) and students in the Advance Education (high school and college level) program can be sponsored for a total of $375 for the 2011-2012 school year. Click here to download an Education brochure, or click here to go to the online sponsorship application.

Raising funds in US schools to support children in these programs is also an excellent way to involve US students. Their understanding of other children and their lives in developing countries is expanded as they help others abroad. In the past, some classes have had Skype calls with their sponsored children in the Dominican Republic and others have exchanged book marks and notes. If you are interested in initiating such activities in a school here, please contact wendy@foundationforpeace.org

Selling Craft Items from the Dominican Republic and Kenya

We have purchased hand made jewelry from Kenya and purses from the Dominican Republic at market value for resale here in the US. These items allow for provision of income to women living in poverty, so they can feed themselves and their family and enroll their children in school. We need people to help create a catalog, improve our on-line shopping site and to sell these items when opportunities arise in different venues. Retailers, churches and individuals can sell the items, thereby providing an income for families. Any proceeds derived by the Foundation for Peace from their sale are used for poverty relief projects in their communities. The list of items is growing. If you are interested in participating in the "Economic Development" program, please contact ken@foundationforpeace.org

Health Education Materials

As a part of ongoing efforts to improve the understanding of those in need of basic health principles and disease prevention, we need to prepare brochures and posters in their native languages. Some of these may already be available online, but others will need to be designed specifically for the communities where we work. The languages needed are English, Spanish, Creole and Swahili. If you are interested in participating in the "Health Education" program, please contact ken@foundationforpeace.org

Preparation of Medicines for Medical Clinics

In an effort to expedite the treatment and management of thousands of patients in our medical clinics during the year, we need to re- package bulk shipments of donated medicines into patient-sized packages. Groups of people are needed to count, repackage and label them in their native language. This can be done in Mendham, NJ, or supplies can be transported so these tasks can be accomplished elsewhere. If you are interested in participating in the "Preparation of Medicines", please contact ken@foundationforpeace.org

Educational Conferences and Presentations

Throughout the year, staff and friends of the FFP provide educational seminars. Our US-based programs are designed to create a healthy and informed attitude regarding people living in poverty that translates into action to help our fellow brothers and sisters in some of the poorest countries of the world. Dates, times and locations will be posted on the FFP home page when confirmed. If you are interested in scheduling a presentation with your church, civic group, etc., please contact wendy@foundationforpeace.org
