Isidro Yan

I am Juan Isidro Yan. I have contributed to the work of the Foundation for Peace for more than 10 years. It is a great blessing for me to be part of this team, working hand in hand with people truly in need. I have served in different communities where the foundation has its projects and the reality of seeing children laugh and work with the mission volunteers is very exciting.

During the summer of 2009 I worked in the following communities in the Dominican Republic: Pantoja, Zumbon, and Pedernales and I also worked in Haiti in Anse-a-pitre.

Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. The environmental crisis in this country is very serious: deforestation, soil erosion, scarcity of water, unsanitary urban areas, loss of biodiversity and hunger. Also the explosion in population and subsequent increase in shacks are factors that further worsen the vulnerability of the Haitian community.

The situation is extreme. The lack of energy and electricity, the use of carbon fuels, with the lack of public policy on the environment demonstrate clearly that these issues are not a priority for the government. It is very important that we continue working hand in hand with this nation. Please join us on mission trip soon!
