The ministry of Alberto and Rosalina Martinez inspired the Foundation for Peace. When they emigrated from Puerto Rico over 30 years ago, they began to establish the Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal M.I. church in the Dominican Republic. This Puerto Rican denomination has now grown to more than 200 churches. It is predominantly, but not exclusively, the denomination that the Foundation for Peace serves with in partnership. The Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal M.I. church has focused on working with people in some of the poorest areas in the country and is therefore a very appropriate partner for the Foundation for Peace.
The success of the Foundation for Peace, as evidenced by its continuing growth, is due primarily to the grace of God guiding the development of meaningful relationships with the local Dominicans. The foundation of these friendships is inspired by the leadership of the pastors from the local Pentecostal churches and from the North American churches who accompany their congregation members during the mission trips.
In 2005, 29 churches were represented on the trip. About a third of those churches are actively involved in sending teams year after year. Listed below are the pastors and their churches who are actively participating in the Foundation for Peace summer mission trip program.
