Life Changing Impact: Healing and Inspiration | Kelvin and Kilfry
In Los Chiminos, Dominican Republic, two lives were forever changed by the compassionate efforts of Foundation for Peace (FFP).
Kelvin faced a life-threatening situation after a horrific motorcycle accident, while his neighbor, Kilfry, confirmed his life's calling through this tragedy. Their stories demonstrate the profound impact small acts of kindness and support can have on individuals and their communities.
Following his accident, Kelvin’s foot was at risk of amputation, and the threat of infection jeopardized not only his limb but also his life. His family was very frightened for him. An FFP medical team was able to visit Kelvin at home and provide him with the critical wound care he needed to prevent infection and promote healing. A week later, another medical team followed up on his condition and determined that he now needed in-clinic treatments. They funded his trip to the capital, Santo Domingo for this care, vital to his recovery.
Kelvin's wife, filled with hope and gratitude, reported promising signs of progress.
In the same neighborhood, Kelvin's neighbor, Kilfry, was inspired by the remarkable efforts he was witnessing. Kilfry was pursuing a nursing-focused high school program and learned from the team how to care for Kelvin's wounds. This experience confirmed his passion to make a difference in the lives of others.
Recognizing Kilfry's dedication and potential, FFP staff extended a helping hand to him, assisting with his pursuit of a university education in medicine. Kilfry did not just depend on others. To support his studies, Kilfry took on various jobs, including cleaning houses. He is committed to this path.
