Nourishing Hope and Hungry Children | Mathare Slum, Kenya

Feeding Program

In the heart of Mathare North, one of Nairobi's largest and most impoverished slums, hope is delivered in the form of a feeding program that is making a daily difference in the lives of 1,000 children by providing a hot nourishing meal.

Mathare North is home to thousands of families living in extreme poverty, with limited access to necessities such as food, clean water, and healthcare. Hunger is an ever-present reality for many, and children suffer the most from malnutrition.

Foundation for Peace partners with the Living Word Church (LWC) in Mathare North, a church that cares for more than its members. In addition to spiritual programs, their programs strive to meet the educational, economic and medical needs of their community. They operate a quality elementary school, provide business training and entrepreneur support and maintain a volunteer caregiver program for the chronically ill. They also run medical camps with free care and medicines for all, held in partnership with Foundation for Peace.

In 2022, the FFP team built a small new building on the church grounds for another use. LWC leaders heard of a new government feeding program and wanted to use the building as a kitchen. FFP leadership follows the lead of its local partners, to work on their priority needs. Group funds from the 2023 team were used to change the building to meet the feeding program standards, tiling the kitchen and installing cabinets and appliances.

The church applied for a grant for this feeding program and was accepted!

This program feeds hope, one meal at a time. Each day, meals are prepared and distributed to 1,000 children! Children are becoming healthier and more resilient. Families struggling to make ends meet can rely on this lifeline to ease their financial burden and ensure their children receive at least one nutritious meal a day.

Your donations enable FFP to say yes to communities prioritized needs, like installing a kitchen. We cannot do everything, but we will do anything, including giving the helping hand to empower local partners to take advantage of other resources there!

I am grateful to God for putting people in place to prepare the food and feed the children. What a glorious God we have.
Dear Almighty God, May donors continue to come forth to supply this basic need. Thank you for Foundation for Peace and everything they are involved with. We ask for supply in Jesus’ name. Amen.
