Lifechanging Impact: Empowering Guerdine’s Self-sufficiency

The world often overlooks those with reduced mobility, especially in places where there are insufficient opportunities for the general population. Foundation for Peace often bridges the gap to help empower individuals like Guerdine. With one leg and facing the challenges of a country with a 54% employment rate, Guerdine had struggled to support herself and her family.

Guerdine is a single mother residing in Casimir Village, Haiti, a community created by the government for people harmed in the 2010 earthquake. Guerdine had tried various ways to generate income but had not been able to make ends meet.

Foundation for Peace delivers water in her community each month, has distributed food, and helped with some school tuitions each year. Guerdine reached out to Foundation for Peace to ask for some financial help to start her own business. With the generous contributions of donors, FFP provided Guerdine with the essential tools she needed to kickstart her entrepreneurial journey – a stove and cookware.

Guerdine started her restaurant in Vilaj Casimir in April. With determination and hard work, her restaurant not only provides for herself but also helps ensure a better future for her two children. In a challenging environment where securing supplies can be risky due to gang activity, Guerdine remains undeterred, showing incredible courage in her pursuit of success.

Guerdine’s oldest daughter wants to be a nurse and has completed one year of study in Port-au-Prince. The situation in Haiti is tenuous and she will continue studying as the opportunity for education arises. Her mother’s success inspires her to hold tight to her dreams,
